EN// While I was looking through some new young adult books on an online book shop, I saw "Infinite in Between" as a recommendation to my previous achievements and I decided to buy it, without even reading the synopsis. *I don`t usually do this, stay chill:))))* Now that I`ve read it *I`ve finished a little while ago though* I can say that I don`t regret buying it at first sight. Yes, I was not expecting what I`ve read, judging by the title, but it was still a very nice reading. I guess I was looking for some more drama, *drama in books is just better than the real life one* but actually it was the right amount of teenage drama, enough to make it a cute, easy, young-ish book.
"Maybe it`s true what they said, that tragedy plus time is comedy."
The main characters, five teenagers, Zoe, Jake, Mia, Gregor and Whitney, had written a letter to their future themselves in the day before the high-school start at a freshman orientation meet. They had hidden their letters in a secret place, in order to remain still until the last day of their high-school experience. Lovely idea, isn`t it?
People say that high-school years are the best, but is that really true?
"The only way out of a problem is facing it."
When they started this new experience, none of them could have thought that they will have to face the loss of someone close, the view of family splitting up right in front of them, the beautiful and terrifying feeling of a first love, the bitter taste of betrayal and so many other events, all of them helping to find their true identity.
"-Do you think people could reinvent themselves?
-What do you mean?
-Look, I am the same since a long time. I`ve had enough of myself.
-Yes, I think so. I think you can decide who you want to be and act like that."
Zoe is the daughter of a well-known actress with certain problems that affect the life of both mother and daughter. In fact, that`s the reason she gets to go with the others at the Hankinson high-school: her mother needed some time on her own. At the new school, you would say that she could have had a fresh start; well, that`s technically impossible when your mother is so popular. Everyone seem to treat her like the daughter of Sierra Laybourne, which makes her feel uncomfortable all the time. I mean, put yourself in her place, how would you feel?
Jake is a gay boy who fell in love with his childhood friend, but he`s not that lucky. Ted, his friend, is not so sure of his feelings or his "orientation" so he disappoints Jake, making his first year more complicated than it should have been. The second year he manages to make new friends, some of his mates from the first day at freshman orientation.
Mia is considered to be the typical nerd, the one who thinks that school is the only thing that matters in life. Even her "best friend" considers her a freak and she knows that, but what could she do: she has to have at least a friend around her like everyone, right? Personally, I don`t agree with this; I think it`s better to not have anyone by your side than to have someone who thinks and speaks bad about you. Quality over quantity, remember. But eventually, she realizes this, and she changes things, which is important.
Gregor is a very talented cello player, who immediately fell in love with one of his freshman mates, Whitney. During these four years of high-school, he has to face many obstacles, a family loss, a suddenly appeared allergy, new love stories, summer camps and a lot so on.
Whitney is a very lively, very dynamic and very enthusiastic girl, who is pretty fangirling over Zoe`s mother, Sierra Laybourne. She has some... twisted frienships, and she figures out how to manage them. She also faces some pretty adventures with love, which are so enjoyable and funny to read.
In this book, there`s also a lot of character growth, which, in my opinion, is a very important aspect of it. I think that the deepest, strongest character evolution is noticeable at Zoe and Mia, at least in my point of view.
"-You know what, I am really sorry that the two of us haven`t socialized more in high-school. I`m wondering why?
-I was hiding.
-Me too.

-Yeah, in my own way,
He was wondering if they hadn`t all been hiding and if they all had felt lonely most of the high-school period."
I really recommend reading "Infinite in Between", for those who want a more light hearted book, with such teen-ish, youthful vibes. I think it`s a pretty choice to pick after a heavy, intense book, so that you can still make progresses in your yearly Goodreads challenge:)))

RO// În timp ce mă uitam pe un site de librărie online printre niște cărți apărute ca recomandare de la alte achiziții mai vechi, am dat cu ochii peste această carte, "Infinitul dintre noi" și am decis să o cumpăr, chiar fără să îi mai citesc sinopsisul. *stai calm, nu fac asta prea des:)))* Acum că am terminat-o de citit *de fapt, am terminat-o de ceva timp deja* pot să spun că nu regret că am luat-o așa la prima vedere. Da, nu m-am așteptat la multe lucruri care s-au întâmplat în carte, mai ales judecând după titlu, dar tot a fost o lectură drăguță. Cred că mă așteptam totuși la ceva mai multa dramă, *drama din cărți este mult mai bună decât cea din viața reală* dar a fost cantitatea potrivită de dramă adolescentină, atât cât să o facă o lectură placută, tinerească și ușoară.

Personajele principale, cinci adolescenți, Zoe, Jake, Mia, Gregos și Whitney, își scriu o scrisoare pentru ei din viitor în ziua de dinainte de începerea școlii, la o întâlnire de orientare a bobocilor. Au ascuns scrisorile într-un loc sigur, pentru a le păstra în condiții bune, timp de patru ani. Ce idee drăguță, nu-i așa?
Oamenii spun că anii de liceu sunt cei mai frumoși, dar oare chiar așa este?
"Singura cale de a ieși dintr-o situație dificilă este să dai piept cu ea."
Când au început această nouă experiență, niciunul din ei nu s-ar fi gândit că în decursul acestor ani, vor avea de trecut peste pierderea unei persoane dragi, destrămarea unei familii chiar în fața ochilor lor, sentimentul frumos și terifiant al primei iubiri, gustul amărui al trădării și multe alte evenimente, toate ajutându-i să își găsească identitatea.
"-Crezi că oamenii se pot reinventa?
-Cum adică?
-Uite, eu sunt același de mult timp. M-am săturat de mine.
-Da, cred că da. Cred că poți decide cine vrei să fii și acționa în direcția asta."
Zoe este fiica unei actrițe foarte cunoscute cu anumite probleme care afectează atât viața mamei, cât și a fiicei. De fapt, acesta e și motivul pentru care se mută la liceul Hankinson: mama ei avea nevoie de niște timp singură. La școala nouă, ai vrea să spui că are parte de un nou început, un lucru teoretic imposibil, având în vedere popularitatea mamei sale. Toată lumea pare să o vadă doar ca pe fiica Sierrei Laybourne, ceea ce o face pe Zoe să se simtă inconfortabil mai tot timpul. Adică, pune-te în situația ei, cum te-ai simți?
Jake este un băiat gay care s-a îndrăgostit de cel mai bun prieten din copilărie, dar nu e atât de norocos. Ted, prietenul său nu e prea sigur de sentimentele sau de "orientarea" sa, așa că îl dezamăgește pe Jake de multe ori, făcându-i primul an de liceu mai greu decât ar fi fost altfel. În cel de-al doilea an, el reușește totuși să își facă prieteni noi, unii dintre ei fiind colegii lui din prima zi de orientare a bobocilor.
Mia este considerată tocilara obișnuită, cu note perfecte și care crede că școala e totul. Până și "prietena ei cea mai bună" crede că este o ciudată, și ea știe asta, dar ce poate ea să facă: are și ea nevoie de măcar o prietenă în jurul ei ca oricine altcineva, nu? Personal, cred că atitudinea asta e greșită; mai bine să nu ai pe nimeni în jurul tău, decât să ai oameni care te desconsideră. Calitate peste cantitate, adevărat? Totuși, până la urmă lucrurile se schimbă, din fericire, și ea își dă seama de greșeala ei.
Gregor este un băiat foarte talentat la violoncel, care s-a îndrăgostit instantaneu de o colegă boboacă, Whitney. De-a lungul celor patru ani de liceu va avea de trecut peste multe obstacole, precum o pierdere în familie, o alergie apărută, povești de dragoste noi, tabere de vară și așa mai departe, multe altele.
Whitney este o fată foarte energică, plină de viața și entuziasm, o mare fană a Sierrei Laybourne, mama lui Zoe. De asemenea, are câteva prietenii... întortocheate, pe care reușește cumva să le descurce. Poveștile amoroase prin care trece și ea sunt foarte amuzante și plăcute de citit.
În carte găsești multă evoluție de caracter din partea personajelor, ceea ce este un aspect foarte important, cel puțin din punctul meu de vedere. Cred că cea mai puternică, mai radicală și mai spectuloasă evoluție o poți vedea la Zoe și Mia, din perspectiva mea.
"-Știi ceva, îmi pare rău că noi doi n-am socializat mai mult în liceu. Oare de ce?
-Mă ascudeam.
-Și eu.
-Tu?
-Mda, în felul meu.
El se întreba dacă nu cumva se ascunseseră, de fapt, cu toții și dacă ceilalți se simțiseră, la fel ca el, singuri în cea mai mare parte a anilor de liceu."
Chiar recomand această carte, mai ales pentru cei care vor o carte mai ușoară, perfectă după o carte grea, profundă, pentru a nu neglija provocarea anuală de Goodreads:))) Este o carte cu un aer tineresc, îți dă așa o stare de adolescență, te face să te simți din nou pe coridoarele liceului.
